Frequently asked

Do the focus sounds actually work? +

Honestly: the evidence varies by mode, and we label every mode with its level. The gentle amplitude pulse behind Focus and Deep Focus follows an approach validated in a large 2024 peer-reviewed study; binaural and 40 Hz modes carry moderate or lab-stage evidence and say so on their card. Nothing in the app pretends to be medicine, and the best test is a free session with your actual to-do list.

I do not have tinnitus. Is Quietra for me? +

Yes. On the first screen you pick what brought you here: focus, study and sleep sound, or tinnitus masking. The focus side is a full product: eight modes, a pomodoro timer, generative music, and sound that adapts to your room, your hearing and the time of day. The masking side simply stays out of your way.

Is Quietra a medical device? +

No. Quietra is a sound-masking tool for comfort and rest. It is not a medical device and is not a substitute for professional care. If the ringing in your ears is new, sudden, or only on one side, please see a doctor or audiologist.

Why is the ringing louder at night? +

When the room goes quiet, there is less everyday sound to sit on top of the ringing, so it stands out more — which is exactly when you are trying to fall asleep. Quietra fills that silence with a soundscape tuned to your pitch, so the ringing steps into the background.

Does it keep playing during calls and when the screen locks? +

Yes. The sound keeps going when your screen locks, when a call comes in, and when you switch to AirPods — the moments other apps tend to get wrong. You can pause it or see what is playing right from your lock screen, without unlocking. A sleep timer can fade it out on its own.

Will it drain my battery overnight? +

It is built to be gentle on battery. Playback is lightweight, and a sleep timer can fade the sound out after a set time or once you have drifted off, so it is not running any longer than you need.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription? +

Everything is handled by Apple. Open iOS Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Quietra to change or cancel. If you are on the free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged. We also send one friendly heads-up the day before the trial converts.

How do refunds work? +

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com or support.apple.com/HT204084.

What do I get for free, and what needs Premium? +

Free includes the ring finder, the core Focus mode, three soundscapes (White, Rain, Ocean), and a sleep timer. Premium adds all eight focus modes, the generative music engine (Deep Techno, Drum & Bass, Lo-fi, Drone), notched masking, the full soundscape library, per-ear tuning, all sleep timers including "until morning", and your progress history. Premium is $4.99 a month, $34.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $79.99 once for Lifetime.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device? +

Sign in to the new iPhone with the same Apple ID, install Quietra, open the paywall, and tap Restore Purchases. Your Premium access transfers automatically. Family Sharing is on, so household members on your Apple Family can use Premium too.

The sound stopped playing — what should I check? +

Make sure your iPhone is not in Silent mode with volume all the way down, that Quietra has permission to play in the background, and that a sleep timer has not already faded it out. If you switched audio outputs (for example to AirPods), reopen Quietra and start the sound again.

Does my data leave my device? +

Your journal, check-ins, the pitch you tuned, everything read from Apple Health (your audiogram, pulse and sleep), and what the microphone hears during a room measurement all stay on your device. The only things that leave it are anonymous usage counts, crash reports, and, if you turn the weather feature on, rounded coordinates sent to a weather service with nothing else attached. See our Privacy Policy for the details.
