Quietra is built to be private by default. There are no accounts, no ads inside the app, and we do not sell your data. Your journal, check-ins, your Health data and the pitch you tune stay on your device. This policy explains the only things that ever leave it: anonymous usage data, crash reports, a measurement signal telling us which advert an install came from, and (only if you turn the weather feature on) rounded coordinates sent to a weather service. And why.
Who we are
Quietra ("we", "us") is an iOS app with two jobs: sound engineered for focus and sleep, and masking that softens the ringing of tinnitus. For any privacy question, email [email protected].
What stays on your device
The following never leaves your iPhone. It is stored or processed locally and is not sent to us or anyone else:
- The frequency you tune with the ring finder (per ear).
- Your soundscape choices, focus-mode preferences, mixes, and sleep-timer settings.
- Your journal entries, monthly check-in answers, attention self-check result, and progress history.
- Everything read from Apple Health, when you allow it: your AirPods hearing-test audiogram (used to gently balance the sound between your ears), your heart rate and resting heart rate (used to pace tempo-aware sounds), and last night's sleep duration (used for a gentle note in focus sessions). These values are read on the device, used in the moment, and never uploaded, stored by us, or shared. You can revoke access anytime in the Health app.
- What the microphone hears during a room measurement. When you use auto-level, the app listens to the room for a couple of seconds (or, if you turn on continuous adjustment, during the session with echo cancellation) purely to compute a loudness number and set the volume. The audio is analyzed in memory on the device; it is never recorded to disk, never uploaded, and never leaves your iPhone. The microphone is off unless you turned one of these features on.
- Your subscription status, which is managed by Apple.
What we collect
Anonymous usage data (analytics)
We use Amplitude to count a small, fixed set of in-app events — for example, that the ring finder was completed or a sleep timer was set. These events are bucketed and carry no account, no name, no email, and no advertising identifier (IDFA). They are not linked to your identity. We use them only to understand which parts of the app help, so we can make it better.
Crash reports
We use Sentry to receive crash and error reports when something goes wrong, so we can fix it. These reports are scrubbed of your journal and note text and are not tied to a user identity. Screenshots and view hierarchies are not captured.
Install attribution (advertising measurement)
We advertise Quietra on the App Store and on Google. To know which adverts are worth paying for, we use AppsFlyer to measure whether an install, a free trial, or a subscription came from a particular advert. What this sends is a device-level install record, the amount of a subscription payment, and a handful of milestone events with no detail attached — that onboarding was finished, that a first minute of masking played, that a trial began.
We never ask for permission to track you across other companies' apps and websites, so we never receive your advertising identifier (IDFA); it reaches us as zeros. Apple's SKAdNetwork and Apple's own attribution service do the measuring instead, and they are designed to report campaign performance without identifying individuals. Nothing from your journal, your check-ins, or the frequency you tuned is ever part of this. If you would rather not be counted at all, iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → Personalised Ads controls Apple's side, and deleting the app stops everything on ours.
Weather (optional)
If you turn on "Match the weather outside", the app asks for your approximate location and sends one request per session to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (api.met.no, weather data under CC BY 4.0) with your coordinates rounded to about a kilometer. No identifier, no account, and nothing else about you goes with that request, and we never see or store your location. Leave the toggle off and the app never asks for location at all.
What we do not do
- We do not require or offer accounts.
- We do not show ads inside the app.
- We do not ask for permission to track you across other apps and websites, and we do not receive your advertising identifier (IDFA).
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information.
- We do not record or upload audio. The microphone is used only for the optional room-leveling features described above, and only to compute a loudness number on the device.
- We do not upload anything read from Apple Health.
Apple and purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Your subscription status is read directly from Apple on your device; no third-party billing service is involved.
Data retention and your control
Because your content lives on your device, you are in control of it. Deleting the app removes that local data from your iPhone. Anonymous analytics and crash events, once sent, are retained by our providers for a limited period under their standard policies. Children
Quietra is rated 4+ but is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the App Store privacy label.
Quietra is a wellness tool for comfort, rest and concentration. It is not a medical device and is not a substitute for professional care.
